Today's deck started as an idea, rather than a character. I wanted to create a deck that used Special cards as pseudo-attacks and Boba Fett seemed to fit the bill. In fact, a desire to explore this idea is one of the reasons I decided to go forward with this expansion. This deck was the first one I conceptualized, but not the first one I previewed because it took me quite a while to come up with a way to put a twist on the concept. I eventually settled on Mandalorian Helmet, so let me know what you think of the card- it's a fun little gizmo. Without further ado, here's the Original (Space) Gangster (and his pal, Greedo).
Boba Fett – HP 16 – Yellow+ Deck – Ranged
Greedo – HP 9 – Strong Deck – Ranged
Boba Fett
Mitrinomon Z-6 Jetpack
Special
Move Boba Fett up to 5 spaces. Then choose any character Boba Fett can attack. That character receives 5 damage. The player controlling that character may discard a combat card matching that character to reduce the damage by the defense value of that card. Then move Boba Fett up to 5 spaces.
EE-3 Carbine Sniper Rifle
Special
Choose any character Boba Fett could attack if he could attack through other characters. That character receives 6 damage. The player controlling that character may discard a combat card matching that character to reduce the damage by the defense value of that card.
MM9 Concussion Rocket
Special
Choose any character Boba Fett can attack and choose a straight line in any direction from that character. That character and all characters in that line receive 4 damage. Any player controlling one of those characters may discard a combat card matching that character to reduce the damage to that character by the defense value of that card.
Sacros K-11 Disintegrator
Special
Choose any character Boba Fett can attack. That character receives 1 damage. The player controlling that character may discard a combat card matching that character to reduce the damage by the defense value of that card. If this damage is not reduced to 0, that character receives 9 additional damage.
Mandalorian Helmet
A1/D1
Any time a player would discard cards from his/her hand due to a card effect, you may discard this card in place of one of those cards.
Greedo
Mercenary
A7
The player controlling the defending character may choose a Basic Combat card matching the defending character and put it in your hand. Greedo may play this card as if it were his own. If that player does, the defending character receives no damage from this attack.
First Shot
A6
If the defending character is adjacent to Greedo or was adjacent to Greedo at the beginning of this turn, that character receives no damage from this attack.
3x Mitrinomon Z-6 Jetpack
2x EE-3 Carbine Sniper Rifle
2x MM9 Concussion Rocket
1x Sacros K-11 Disintegrator
1x Mandalorian Helmet
2x Mercenary
1x First Shot
First off, this design has some innate advantages and disadvantages because it skirts around the normal combat rules. For starters, Boba telegraphs all of his attacks, so your opponent will never have to worry about over-defending. On the other hand, since these aren't technically attacks, power combat cards won't have their effects triggered, which can be particularly problematic for defenses like Vader's More Machine Than Man, Nihilus' Death Defied, or Asajj's Dedicated Assassin. It also changes up how other talents affect Boba. Cin's Form VI: Niman and C-3PO's Mindless Philosopher won't cause him problems, but Durge's Gadget - Energy Shields and Luminara's Force Deflection can completely negate any of his tricks.
Bearing this in mind, I also tried to give Boba's attacks effects that wouldn't work in the context of a normal power attack. One of the big advantages of his kit is that with Mitrinomon Z-6 Jetpack and EE-3 Carbine Sniper Rifle, Boba can attack from relative safety and wear his opponent down with no risk to his team. "Fan favorite" Greedo can also help to wear down defenses with his signature trick, Mercenary. Even if your opponent bribes Greedo into forgetting he found him with the attack, he's still giving up a potential defense card.
Of course, Boba can also bypass defense completely with his only power combat card, Mandalorian Helmet. The helmet can be discarded in place of whatever defense card your opponent was going to use to make him defend with a value of 1. It can also be used in a variety of ways against other decks with discarding. Against Agen Kolar, you can reduce Resolve to an A4. Against Komari Vosa, you can prevent a wide variety of dangerous effects. Against a character with random discarding, you can save a teammate's important talent.
I expect Boba to see a lot of play against characters that rely on power defense and against characters that are difficult to engage with. Since he's kind of a cross between a direct damage character and a shooter, I'd expect him to pair well with Jabba, Bly, Nute, IG-88, or other characters who can do most of their damage from range.
