I know it's been a while since I posted a new deck. A few of you have told me that you follow the blog and have been waiting for an update. To you lurkers I say: leave a comment and let me know your first impressions of the new stuff! I really like the feedback and it often improves the deck while it's still very malleable.
Part of the reason for the delay is the creative process and part of the reason is that I am now posting "beta" decks rather than "alpha" decks. In other words, these decks have been played at least once to make sure they function as intended. To make up for the wait, though, I'm bringing you two new characters today. First up is the baddest Jedi in the order, Mace Windu!
The original Mace Windu is one of my favorites in the Hasbro set. His card advantage game interested me, but his path to victory is a bit too simplistic for the Galactic Battles set. My Mace retains the focus on beating your opponent with superior resources (and a solitary copy of Battlemind as a throwback), but places more emphasis on allocating your cards rather than simply accumulating them to fuel Battlemind. Here in all his glory is Mace Windu:
Mace Windu – HP 19 – Blue Deck – Melee
Clone Troopers – HP 4 – Weak Deck – Ranged
High Jedi General
Special
Search your draw pile and discard pile for any 4 Clone Trooper cards and put them in your hand. Then shuffle your draw pile.
Master of the Order
A5
Until the end of your next turn, any time a defense card is played, you may discard any number of cards. For each card discarded, decrease the defense value of that card by 1.
Keeper of the Peace
D5
Until the end of the attacker's next turn, any time an attack card is played, you may discard any number of cards. For each card discarded, decrease the attack value of that card by 1.
Form VII: Vaapad
A6
Move Mace up to 6 spaces. Until the end of your next turn, any time a character moves, you may discard any number of cards. For each card discarded, increase that movement by 1 space.
Amethyst Blade
Special
Choose any opponent. That opponent chooses and discards 2 cards. Until the end of your next turn, any time an opponent draws cards, you may discard a card. If you do, take any card from that opponent's discard pile and put that card on top of his/her draw pile.
Battlemind
A{STAR}/D{STAR}
The attack and defense values of this card are equal to the number of cards in your hand after this card is played.
3x High Jedi General
2x Master of the Order
2x Keeper of the Peace
2x Form VII: Vaapad
2x Amethyst Blade
1x Battlemind
Mace is a brawler/support hybrid with a focus on raw card advantage that should shine in a variety of match-ups due to his versatility. Mace's game revolves around his High Jedi Generals. This bread-and-butter special gives Mace a few advantages on its own: it lets him repeatedly poke with his troopers, pull the clone cards out of his deck to avoid drawing them, and render opposing discard effects useless. On the flip side, Mace relies on High Jedi General to fuel his discard effects and will struggle if he doesn't see a copy early.
Mace will play a bit like Ki-Adi-Mundi with his temporary states and card advantage and Yoda with his ability to support his teammate and still be in the fray. I'd expect Mace to pair well with other brawlers or offensive characters who can stay in the fight with his help. Mace becomes exceptionally deadly in a late-game small-hand situation. He can thin his deck to essentially play as a single character deck, making his top-decking superb.
I hope you like Mace Windu and if you don't, by all means, let the hate flow through you in the comments below.
